At 1836 hours on the evening of July 26, 2019, Station 2 units were alerted to the 2-09 box for a possible dwelling fire in the area of Central Avenue and Muddy Creek Road. Caller reported seeing smoke coming from the rear of a home. The full box assignment was filled, bringing fire and medical apparatus in from surrounding companies. Engine 2-2 crews arrived in the area to investigate and found a residential dwelling with smoke showing. Captain 2 completed a 360 walk around and found fire showing from side Charlie. Due to the location of the dwelling, a tanker task force was requested. Primary water source was hydrants at South River High School. Police presence was requested for traffic control while water was shuttled to the scene from the high school. Central Avenue was closed from Mayo Rd to the scene on the Peninsula for several hours and reopened just before 2130 hours.
The homeowners and family dogs were out of town at the time of the fire,however sadly, a family cat was lost in this incident. Cause of the fire has not been determined at this time. Photos borrowed from local community Facebook page subscribers.
