Our featured member of the week is Mike Williams. Mike has done an incredible job in not only taking many classes to be able to ride but steps up to help at nearly every station function possible. Once a cadet himself, he now helps with the current cadets. This year he also became a member of our Board of Directors. Great job, Mike!

Are you a responder or administrative member? I am both a responder and an administrative member.
How many hours per week do you spend volunteering? On average, I spend between 20-24 hours per week riding.
What inspired you to become a volunteer? I joined Woodland Beach as a cadet in 2013. Participating in the weekly cadet meetings and the station events were amazing experiences for me, which led me to remain in the department and start taking courses. Prior to me joining, I never gave serious thought to being a firefighter; however, Woodland Beach welcomed me into their family with open arms and encouraged my advancement as a member.
Who is your role model? Chief Bobby Howlin. He’s committed a large portion of his time to the department and helping his friends and family.
What is your most memorable moment since becoming a member? Some of the more memorable moments as a member have been during the Firehouse Santa runs. Participating in this event is a very gratifying experience and I look forward to doing it every year. I plan on taking Firefighter Survival and Rescue in April, Firefighter 2 in May and SiteOps/Rescue Tech in the near future.
What are your future goals within the department? I plan on remaining an active riding member within the department and maintaining my position on the board of directors.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time? In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my friends and family.
