Fire Boat 2 and Ambulance 2-9 on Standby for Blue Angels Flyover
Woodland Beach VFD Fire Boat 2 and Ambulance 2-9 were two of several fire/rescue boats and medical units on location in and along the Severn River for the Blue Angels practice flyover on Tuesday, May 25th and again for the Airshow on Wednesday, May 26th. Boat 2 was staffed by Chief John Sweeney, past chief Bobby Howlin and 2 career staff each day. Ambulance 2-9 staffed by volunteers Heather Charters, Melissa Boe and Dawn Kayton was also on standby for the events.
Having fire department personnel on location for large scale events such as this is necessary to provide urgent and immediate care should something go wrong. Trying to navigate through crowds both on land and in the water can waste precious time when lives are in danger. Whether a medical emergency on a boat or land, or even a large scale tragedy such as a boat collision or a plane crash, ground and water based units from Anne Arundel County, Annapolis, Calvert County, the Coast Guard, DNR and even St. Mary’s County were there to ensure everyone in attendance had available emergency care.
