What Does the Auxiliary Do?
The Auxiliary is a 501(c)3 non-profit entity that holds the purpose of supporting the fire department both financially and administratively. What this means is that the Auxiliary will be responsible for planning, organizing and executing fundraising projects and events, help with community events and other miscellaneous station matters. If you have experience with anything from party planning to carpentry, grant writing to organizational skills we would love to have you. Even if you aren’t sure that any skill you possess would be helpful, we can always find a place for you to participate in something you enjoy.
Benefits of Joining the Auxiliary
What are some of the benefits to being a member of the Auxiliary? You will be able to participate in the Length of Service Awards Program (LOSAP) which means that with years of service and points awarded, you will be eligible to receive tax credits and even receive a check on a monthly basis once age and length of service criteria is met. Our favorite benefit that is priceless is the family you will gain. Whether triumph or tragedy, you will have a group of people to celebrate with or lean on when friends are needed most.
How to Apply
The process for membership is as follows: You will obtain an application from an existing member of the department or you may print it, fill it out and return it in person to a member of WBVFD along with a $25 non-refundable application fee. This will cover the cost of your first t-shirt as well as an administrative fee. Once your application is received, reviewed and background check completed, you will be contacted to participate in an interview. We want to ask a few questions to see what you feel you can bring to the table, what your reasoning is for joining and just get to know you. Your membership application will then be brought to the Board of Directors and voted on to accept or decline the membership. If accepted, you will then be asked to attend your first meeting!
